This cookbook was prepared by the Community Rediscovery 76’ which was a project of the Quincy Society of Fine Arts and Illinois Arts Council under contract with the American Revolution. This cookbook is called Rediscovery German Cookery, which had the prime focus to share with the community what German heritage is and how to live out this heritage. Authors!!!

This cookbook included advice on how to show heritage in day to day life, recipes to share with the family, and what food to cook. German tradition of eating embraced variety and an impressive number of dishes on the table. This cookbook has soup, meat, and vegetable recipes that are traditional German, as well as what dishes you should serve for what occasion and how to serve the dish to your family. One piece of advice Rediscovery German Cookery suggested is that you should always serve 2 or 3 cooked vegetables, stewed fruit, fresh fruits with dressing, cottage cheese, breads and jellies.

The cookbook allowed German people in the county to share recipes and advice on how to live out heritage. German people came to Adams County in the 1800’s where they had just left constant wars, heavy taxation, and persecution to establish a new life with their families. The German people that came to Adams County became a part of America where the nation is rich and has a diverse culture tingled with color from the past of many lands. This cookbook took people that lived out their German heritage everyday and allowed them to share advice on how to live out their heritage as well as gave them traditional German recipes onto an audience. Miss Annemarie is an example, she came to Quincy in 1973 to give cooking school demonstrations which was a great success. Annemarie showed her German hetriage through her cooking and sent her classical recipes to Dr. and Mrs. Wright. This cookbook is full of German recipes that will allow people to live out their German heritage and draw the family closer to their heritage.
