This cookbook was my great-grandmother’s, Ollie Lou Vena Forbes-Garland, from a young age until her death in the mid-1960s. Stamped on the inside cover by my great-grandfather, Robert Garland, in Roan Mountain, TN. Over the years, Vena added her own recipes onto the pages and added note cards sporadically throughout with regional recipes from our family.
This cookbook was mass-published in 1933, and released as a promotional book for Macy’s. It focuses on salads, desserts, d’oeuvres, appetizers, and party suggestions. I am not aware of where my great-grandmother acquired the book, however, she most likely got it in Roan Mountain where my great-grandparents lived until my grandmother was in her teens.
